Altar Server Ministry

St. Agnes Catholic Church

Purpose:
Responds to the requirements and needs of the priest and/or deacon during liturgical sessions. A wonderful opportunity for the youth of our parish to become more closely involved in the liturgical celebrations of St. Agnes Church.

Duties Involved:
Weekly Masses
Altarservers are typically scheduled to serve one or two Masses each month. The Masses (i.e. 4:30 PM, 7:30 AM, 9:00 AM, 10:30 AM, and 12:00 Noon) normally attended by the family of each altarserver can be accommodated in most cases. Periodic schedules are made available at the Church and through e-mail distribution.
Holydays and Special Masses
Altarservers are requested to volunteer to serve at Holydays, Funerals, and other Special Masses. Announcements are made in advance by a Ministry Coordinator via e-mail and phone to request volunteers. Altarservers are scheduled for weddings from time to time based on length of service and a proven record of dependability.

  • Parental Approval
  • Willingness to undergo 3 hours of training prior to serving first Mass

(Look for future announcements in the Parish Bulletin regarding the next training sessions)

  • Serve along with family members involved in other parish ministries
  • Opportunity to accrue service hours required for Confirmation
  • Gratuities for serving at weddings and funerals

Future References
Contributions by youths in the Altar Server Ministry demonstrate strong personal qualities of lasting commitment, devotion, leadership, and a willingness to volunteer. Ministry Coordinators are good sources for future references and written personal recommendations required by high schools, honor societies, colleges, and scholarship committees.
